50th Surprise Birthday at The W.I. Hall in Polruan 20/08/2010

This one was the second visit for R.J.Rhythm to be working in the the village of Polruan and this booking came from a recommendation from the last time we were there when we were working at The Russell Inn back in February of this year. The function tonight was for a Surprise 50th Birthday celebration to be held in the local Women's Institute Hall.

With me on this event was our Rob from my local village and we set off from our offices at 5.30pm as we needed to be set up and going by 7.30pm as this was as I said in the first paragraph a Surprise Birthday Party. Well Polruan is not far if you could get on the ferry from Fowey, but the ferry was not running as the weather on this evening was terrible so we had to make our way all the way round which was about a 30 mile trip to get to the venue. It seemed to take us ages to get to Polruan as the Sat Nav was taking us down single track roads etc just like the last time we were working in this village. We eventually arrived at the venue about 6.30pm and unloading was not to bad as the institute had its own car park hence we could get right up to the doorway. It only took myself and Rob about 45 minutes to set up as we decided to put one of our Medium to large Disco shows in for this evening as we had quite a nice stage area as you can see from the photographs.

We were all set up and tested by 7.15 which was not bad considering we had put in quite a large show and the people were beginning to arrive. At about 7.35 I asked the people to make their way outside to greet the Birthday Boy as he did not have a clue what was going on. The surprise was a great success and as they made their was back into the hall I played Happy Birthday. I played a mixture of 60's 70's and 80's on this occasion as the crowd were quite and older crown with a few youngsters. We even played as they were requested things like The Birdie Dance and them Black Lace records we all now hate lol. The whole evening was a great success and everyone whether dancing or tapping feet in chairs had a great time through out the whole evening.

We finished at about Midnight then myself and Rob packed away within 45 minuets and as per usual everyone had a great night with myself and the R.J.Rhythm Entertainments Crew. We eventually got back to our offices about 3am as again we had to travel down single track roads etc to get back. Looking forward to next week as it is a bit of a manic week as you can see from our August Gig Guide when we have actually got 6 shows out throughout the week as it is August Bank Holiday Weekend..
